The Karma Valley scenic area will open to the public next month, giving tourists the chance to admire the spectacular low river valleys of the Himalayas, according to the Travel Bureau of Dingri County, Tibet Autonomous Region.

Karma Valley is located within the boundary of the Mount Qomolangma Natural Conservation Area. In the 1990s, Professor Taylor, director of the American Institute of Mountain Research, and Professor Campbell, director of the American Centre for Ecological Research, referred to Karma Valley as "one of the ten wonders of the world" in their piece "Tibetan documentary".

The lowest point of the Karma valley sits at an altitude of 2,100 meters, whose precipitous canyons, lush green forests, colorful azalea and crystal clear spring water are famous around the world. Furthermore, from the eastern slope of Karma Valley you can admire the world's highest peak - Mount Qomolangma, and from the northern slope you can enjoy the sight of the fifth highest, Mount Makalu.

The Karma Valley scenic area will be open from May until October every year. The entrance ticket includes an environmental protection costs, and tourists entering the scenic area will pay a flat fare of 180 yuan (1 US dollar = 6.20 yuan) per ticket.

Dingri County's Tourism Bureau reminds that Karma Valley is a hiking tourist area. Each group must have three or more people when entering the scenic area and before entering the scenic area you must register at the Dingri County Mount Qomolangma Management Station. It is forbidden for individuals to enter the scenic area without getting approval. In the interests on safety, tourists should hire a local yak guide familiar with the terrain and tour guide to accompany them.
