Multiple Nature Reserves of Sichuan Protect Wild Plants and Animals

Establishing nature conservation is the most effective methods to protect biology diversity and natural resources. Reporters learned from Ministry of Environmental Protection that the network of biodiversity conservation of China has basically formed and over 85% of the wild plants and animals protected importantly are in the nature preserves.

  According to statistics provided by Ministry of Environmental Protection, by 2014, there have been 428 national level nature preserves with an area of 96.52 million hectares, covering all types of nature preserves.

  The main objects of nature preserves range from typical natural geographical areas, representative natural ecological systems, natural concentrated distribution areas of rare and endangered wild plants and animals, territorial waters, coasts, islands, wetlands, inland waters, forests, grasslands and deserts enjoying special protection values, and other natural remains with major scientific and cultural values including geological structures, famous caves, fossil distribution areas, glaciers, volcanoes, hot springs, and so on. The most primitive forests, grasslands, and wetlands in China are located in the national level nature preserves mostly. 85% of inland natural ecosystem types, most natural remains, 65% of high plant community types, especially over 85% of the wild plants and animals protected importantly, are all in the nature preserves.

  By the end of 2014, 32 national level nature preserves such as Xilinguole of Inner Mongolia, Wuyi Mountain of Fujian, Wolong of Sichuan, Fanjing Mountain of Guizhou, Xishuangbanna of Yunnan, and so on have been enlisted in Man and the Biosphere Reserve Network of UNESCO. 44 nature reservation Shuangtai River of Liaoning, Yancheng Wetland of Jiangsu, Poyang Lake of Jiangxi and so on have also been enlisted in the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance. 32 nature preserves such as Tai Mountain of Shandong, Zhangjiajie of Hunan, Jiuzhai Valley of Sichuan, Gaoligong Mountain of Yunnan have been enlisted in the World Natural Heritage List.
