Sichuan Veterans Invited to Attend China V-Day Parade

Five Sichuan veterans who fought during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression were invited to V-Day celebrations to be held in Beijing on Sept 3.

Five war heroes, Zhong Hua, Zheng Weibang, Chen Jiaqian, Liu Zhongzhu and Huang Kairen left for Beijing from Chengdu, capital of Sichuan, by plane on Aug 21.

“We go to Beijing on behalf of 3 million comrades-in-arms in Sichuan during the eight-year war to resist the Japanese aggression 70 years ago,” said Zhong Hua, 87. Zhong joined the army at the age of 16 and was sent to India and Myanmar to fight against the occupiers.

The eldest of the five veterans is 99-year-old Zheng Weibang. The memories of the war are deeply engraved in his mind. He often recalls those fierce and bloody days. To attend the V-Day celebrations in Beijing is his utmost honor, said Zheng.

The Sept 3 celebrations will be held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression as well as the end of World War II.
